Inmarsat's newest satellite Alphasat migrated

— the Alphasat-4 (I-4A) F4 — was succesfully launched from French Guiana on 25 July 2013. The size of a London double decker bus, Alphasat will boost capacity across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The migration of Global Satellite Phone Service (GSPS) from Inmarsat-4 (I-4) F2 to the new Alphasat satellite has been completed on 19 November 2013. The GSPS traffic - which includes IsatPhone Pro, IsatPhone Link and FleetPhone - resumes as normal and customers will be able to make voice calls and set up data connections in the usual way.

Please note that the coverage footprint of Alphasat will be different to that of the existing I-4 F2 satellite. Also, under the Alphasat footprint GSPS coverage has been prioritised on the region north of 44 degrees South. A small number of GSPS users may experience a degradation of performance south of this latitude.

Migration plan
The transfer of the remaining services from I-4 F2 to Alphasat, including BGAN, FleetBroadband and SwiftBroadband, is expected to follow mid 2014. Details of the migration plan will be announced later.
