High-speed mobile broadband for the world from Inmarsat

Global Xpress is coming. It’s the first global superfast broadband.

The I-5 satellites will deliver consistent high-performance download speeds of up to 50Mbps and up to 5Mbps over the uplink from their position in geosynchronous orbit

Services will be delivered over our next generation of satellites, the Inmarsat-5 (I-5). The first of three Inmarsat-5 satellites forming the Global Xpress network was blast off on a Proton rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on 8 December. The next two satellites will be lauched in 2014. Global coverage is planned for 2015.
The constellation will operate on Ka-band radio frequencies to deliver a seamless global satellite communications service.

This will change everything.

The I-5 F1 satellite, which will serve Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, is scheduled to be joined by the second and third I-5 satellites during 2014 to deliver worldwide coverage for Global Xpress (GX) services.

Once operational, the I-5 satellites will deliver high-speed mobile broadband communications for deep sea vessels, in-flight connectivity for airline passengers, streaming high-resolution video, voice and date to the enterprise sector, and secure solutions for government customers.

What’s more, this additional capacity will enable Inmarsat to enhance its existing portfolio of L-band services – including BGAN, FleetBroadband, SwiftBroadband and IsatPhone Pro.
